TIPS TO SHIFT YOUR ENERGY USE
A kilowatt hour (kWh) is a measure of how much energy you’re using. For example, a 3000-watt appliance such as a typical electric clothes dryer uses 1.5 kWh in just half an hour. You can easily shift your energy use away from 2 – 6 p.m. on Energy Savings Event Days by:
- Raising the temperature on your thermostat in the summer from 2 – 6 p.m.
- Using energy intensive appliances outside the hours of 2 – 6 p.m., such as:
- Washer and dryer
- Window air conditioners
- Oven and stove
- Installing programmable timers to automatically shift the run time of appliances
